Steve Thompson has had two spells as Manager and two as caretaker, along with two spells as assistant manager. Steve came to Yeovil initially as fitness coach under Colin Lippiatt along with fellow Woking player Kevan Brown for a combined fee of £7500. He was also part-time and working as a postman also. Thompson took the reigns for the first time in September 1999 when Lippiatt resigned, initially as caretaker, but then the post was made permanent.
Despite David Webb being appointed as manager in March 2000, Thompson stayed as his assistant and also played. He was also assistant under Colin Addison and Gary Johnson, and took over again when Johnson left in September 2005 to take over at Bristol City. Thompson reverted to his first team coaching role in May 2006 when Russel Slade was appointed, the highlight was reaching the League 1 play-off final at Wembley in May 2007. Following Slade’s resignation, Thompson took charge for 1 more game in a temporary capacity. Two days later he was released from the club after nearly 11 years at Yeovil as Terry Skiverton took charge of first team affairs.
