It would have been very apt if a Somerset born manager were to have taken Yeovil Town into the Football League. After all he had achieved the feat many years before with Hereford United, but sadly it was not to be.
Born in Taunton in May 1940 Addison played over 400 games in the Football League for York City, Nottingham Forest, Arsenal, Sheffield United and finally Hereford United where he was player manager. He arrived at Yeovil with a very impressive footballing CV, with experience in England, Kuwait, Qatar and Spain.
Addison inherited a talented, if somewhat small, squad. He took Yeovil to their most successful season to date, and yet was seen as something of a failure. He kept Yeovil at the top of the Conference in their first season of full time football, for over 4 months. He led them to 2 wins over Football League sides in the FA Cup, firstly Colchester United and then against Blackpool in the mud. That took us to Bolton Wanderers and a defeat to an added time goal at the Reebok Stadium. But somehow it didn’t happen and Rushden went on to be champions. Soon Addison was gone, but it was a taste of the success that was to soon come our way.
